440C

440C may be the worlds most used commonly used pocket knife steel. It has stood the test of time. It has a great balance of toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. As a bonus is priced lower than most other steels due to it's popularity. Don't confuse 440A or 440B with 440C. Those steels are lower cost but give up edge retention and toughness and should be avoided in use with quality pocket knives. You will often find low priced 440A or 440B or just 440 steel on cheap import knives.

This material measures out at .115"  It has stenciled on it .110/.115". This material has been sand blasted to removed most of the thick hard foundry scale. There is still a thin, hard gray layer of scale you will need to remove.
