This is low tack, easy peel, soak through resistant tape. This type of tape was designed for painters but knife makers soon picked up on it. The difference between this and traditional masking tape is huge. This tape can be left in place for quite a long time and when you peel it off, it won't leave a bunch of adhesive goo. It is also more moisture resistant and just generally tougher than cheaper masking tape. Look around at the on-line tutorials posted by experienced knife makers, you will see blue type tape often for a reason. It works.
