I use a drill bit gauge several times on every knife I make. I keep the gauge plates right next to my drill presses and bits. It's quicker and more reliable to use the gauge to check a drill bit size than it is to try and read the worn letters on the shaft of the bit. All this has to do is save you one wrong hole size in the life time of the tool to pay for its self. I expect it will last your life time.
I also use it to double check pin stock size.
