tip: A blunt needle finds the hole you made for hand stitching much easier than a very sharp pointed one. It will also not draw as much blood. I use an awl point in a drill press to make my holes. The drill can be turned on if you want the holes to be burnished. You will hear about guys using drill bits and drilling the holes -- I used to do that too. A smooth hole from an awl or sharpened pin looks much cleaner than a drill bit. Try them side by side, you will see what I mean.
